Two years ago, we got our first glimpse of what it would be like to live in a camper when my husband was working in Kentucky. Our family ended up staying in a camper in Southern Ohio. While the camper met all or our needs, it didn't have some of the amenities that we are used to. No TV, no internet and no cell phone reception! What's a family to do without all those modern day luxuries??? In addition to spending time enjoying the local wildlife, fishing, reading, and playing board games, the kids decided they each wanted to begin writing their own books. My daughter decided she would write a travel book and began compiling a list of her favorite travel destinations. The boys quickly decided they also wanted to compile a list and soon the entire family was reminiscing about some of the wonderful, and not so wonderful, places we've visited. What we came up with was an agreed upon Top 10 of our families favorite travel spots. Here's a list of what we came up with, though not necessarily in the correct order:
1. Walt Disney World, Florida
2. Washington D.C.
3. Biltmore Estate, North Carolina
4. The Great Smokey Mountains National Park, Tennessee
5. Mammoth Caves National Park, Kentucky
6. Hocking Hills State Park, Ohio
7. Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia
8. St. Augustine, Florida
9. Assateague Island National Seashore, Maryland & Virginia
10. The Stature of Liberty, New York/New Jersey
Of course, since that time we've traveled to a few other great places, like Georgia,Tennessee, or our recent trip to the Alamo. I guess it's about time the kids worked on a new Top Ten List!
What's your favorite family vacation?

where is hocking hills? we are looking for a camping destination in ohio this year. or indiana. any ideas?
ReplyDeleteHocking Hills in Southeast Ohio has my vote! We loved it there! I'd also recommend Mohican State Park in Northeast Ohio. If you go to Mohican, you're not far from Malabar Farm which is awesome too. Personally, I wouldn't camp at Malabar because it's only primitive camping and I don't really enjoy roughing it that much!:)
ReplyDeleteYour family is so blessed to be able to see so many wonderful places. I actually live in the Great Smoky Mountains (Sevierville/Pigeon Forge) and we love it here! And def love Biltmore! We are going there for our anniversary this year. Be safe and enjoy!
ReplyDeleteKristina,
ReplyDeleteI have a friend moving to your area and I can't wait to visit her! My kids want to visit the new Titanic Museum...I'll have to find a few discounts though...it's a wee bit pricey!:) Have fun at Biltmore! What a wonderful place to spend your anniversary!:)
I've been to a couple of those you've got listed and there are a couple more I want to get to one day. Right now, our favorite destination is Lake Michigan, camping at IN Dunes State Park. It's a budget friendly vacation since we are committed to living debt free on one income.

That's wonderful! I've always wanted to go to Mammoth Caves National Park. Here's hoping you have an entry and advice on traveling there with your kids! Great blog. :)
ReplyDeleteCarolyn, Eventually I'd like to add an entry for all of them. If only I could find all the pictures I took for each....:)Thanks for stopping by!:)
ReplyDeleteI love the top ten idea - I'll have to ask my kiddos. We've been to Chichen Itza in Mexico - that is high on our list. I think we've been to four on your list. Great idea! Thanks for the post. Enjoying reading as I respond to Blog Walkers from the Crew...
